Mahishasura Vadh’ Presented Through the Traditional Chhau Dance at Dayawati Modi Academy
On Thursday, October 9, 2025, the campus of Dayawati Modi Academy, Modipuram, came alive with rhythm, devotion, and artistic splendor as the school hosted a spectacular Chhau Dance performance on the theme of ‘Mahishasura Vadh’, the victory of Goddess Durga over the demon Mahishasura.
The event was organized in collaboration with SPIC MACAY (Society for the Promotion of Indian Classical Music and Culture Amongst Youth) — an organization committed to preserving and promoting Indian art forms among the younger generation.
Divine Beginning
The program began with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp before the idol of Goddess Saraswati, invoking blessings for knowledge, wisdom, and creativity.
The school warmly welcomed the celebrated Chhau artist Shri Tarapada Rajak and his team, along with Mr. H. M. Raut, Director of Diwan Public School, who graced the occasion as a special guest.
A Dazzling Performance of Rhythm, Grace, and Devotion
The stage transformed into a sacred space of sound and movement as Shri Tarapada Rajak and his talented troupe — including Prashant Mahato, Sadhu Mahato, Sushant Rajak, Kirtan Bagdi, Vibhuti Mahato, Ambarish Mahato, Niranjan, Amit Bagdi, Vishnu, and Sukumar — presented the traditional Chhau Dance of Bengal, Odisha, and Jharkhand origin.
Through their synchronized movements, dramatic expressions, and rhythmic energy, the artists beautifully depicted the story of Mahishasura Vadh, the triumph of good over evil.
Each scene showcased the nine divine forms of Goddess Durga, radiating Shakti (power), devotion, and grace.
The combination of classical music, percussion beats, and dynamic choreography filled the audience with a profound sense of spirituality and reverence.
The performance not only captivated the spectators but also transported them into the devotional and poetic essence (Kavyanand) of Indian mythology.
A Message of Cultural Heritage
In her concluding remarks, Dr. (Mrs.) Ritu Dewan, Principal and Director of Dayawati Modi Academy, expressed heartfelt gratitude to the visiting artists and SPIC MACAY for bringing such a powerful performance to the school.
She remarked —
“Cultural programs like these are vital for keeping our glorious heritage alive. They offer our students a meaningful opportunity to experience India’s artistic and spiritual richness, ensuring they stay connected to their roots.”
The event was graced by the school’s coordinators and faculty members, who appreciated the mesmerizing performance and the educational value it carried for the students.
Celebrating Tradition Through Art
The Chhau Dance performance at Dayawati Modi Academy was more than an artistic display — it was an immersive lesson in Indian mythology, classical dance, and devotion.
By witnessing this sacred art form, students gained a deeper appreciation for the cultural diversity and spiritual wisdom of India.
As the rhythmic beats faded, the message that lingered was timeless —
“Art connects us to our roots, culture refines our soul, and devotion unites us with the divine.”
